Indications that you are Charging Way Too Little

Low price does indeed scare customers away!

Web design cost or designers in general, has always ben a vague  thing to assess, peoples on several web design Freelance site are daily asking same question, What is the right web design cost  or price to charge the customer. You do not want to price too much because other freelancers might take your customer, And you don’t want to charge to little in design costs because you want to have more quality customers. It must be the right price so that you will make great profits and at the same time don’t scare the customers away, Yes, if you had not caught up with the flow, a low price does indeed scare customers away!.

So here, we are giving you the indications that probably will make you think twice or even  thrice to reconsider  your web design charge and charges you make to your potential customers. And thus, the question that goes inside your head will be “is the price that I charged for my customer right? Was the price I billed too high?” But will you ever think that your pricing is way too low.

And now without any more to Ado, here are the indications that you are charging your customer way too low.

Number Ten – You billed your customer with your daily rate for web design cost, that is why you are wondering why your customer paid too much for your work. What you missed in  you so awesome perception, is that your customer thought that you billed them with your hourly rate.

Number Nine – You are happy because every design job that you want to have was given to you.  And you Still always think that you will have more income because clients keep flowing, but regrettable time is not on your side as it still takes you the same amount of time for  less money.

Working 80 hours a week but still in the basement...

Number Eight – You are working hard, you (web)design for 80 hours a week. But why is it that your income is only enough for your welfare expenses? Did you ever even conside to raise your pricing? Are you actually worth  more to yourself?

Number Seven – Have you ever wondered, that every time you charge your new design customers, they always ask what “the catch” is? “What’s the catch? Are you joking with me?”

Number Six – Why is it that your customers always pay you with cash from their wallet? Do they know what your bank account is used for?

Number Five – Your inbox is always full with hate mails of other  design freelancers. You only thought that they were spam e-mails so you only delete them.

Number Four – You always think that your customers are so rich. This is because they always give you a lot of work, and they don’t even bother knowing what the price of their web design cost is.

Number Three – Though there are many clients that give you work. But even though your work never ends, you can only afford instant  noodles and baked beans to survive.

Number Two – You only have enough cash for burgers, but your brother who is twelve years old have more cash to spend than you. You asked yourself: “where the hell is that kid getting the  money from?”

And the indication that is placed on the top, the number one indication that your prices are too low – There are a lot of clients from India that want to contract out their works to you. You say to yourself “yes! more income”. But what you (still) don’t know is that your pricing is way too little.

A little slice of humor on this topic is nice for a change. But does anyone have a resource page that reviews different models for charging clients: Hourly, Estimating, All up front, Scheduled payments…I’m struggling with my current method and checking the public sector for best advise..

Some ball park figures would be helpful eg how much can you charge for a basic HTML site, or a site with PHP, ASP, javascript, and so on, or how much value does adding a user editable CMS?

Obviously design quality is important but so are the technical aspects of web site design.
